1040-X FOR 2020

Hi to all.

For new client I am going to make 1040-X year 2020, on his return he had sch1 , 2 , C and 4562 should I make them or just 1040 pages 1 ,2 and 1040-X?

As @Skylane said recreate the 2020 return as was original done (all forms, and schedules including state if applicably. You then activate the 1040X, and make necessary changes. For 2020 you have until 5/17/2024 to get a refund. from notice 2023-21.   "An affected taxpayer who filed their 2020 return after May 17, 2021, may be refunded all income tax payments for 2020 if they file their claim for refund by Friday, May 17, 2024."

Best to recreate the 1040 w schedules as filed, then amend.

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

When did they file the original 2020 returns? If on 4/15/2021 then you are too late. Must be filed within 3 years of original filing OR 2 years of the date the taxes were paid.

maybe too late for refund... not too late to give em more $$
