Question

TP PIN

Dear Community,

I just efiled my client's 2023 tax return. It was rejected because It states that I did not enter my client's TP PIN that was previously assigned.

My clients said they did not receive one.

Their 2022 tax return was self prepared and there was no TP PIN used.

For 2023 tax return I send them form 8879 to sign which assigns a TP PIN.

I called IRS number but am going in circles.

Could you please help me with some advice with this?

Thanks in Advance!

    It's an IP PIN.

IF they have an ID.me/login.gov account they can go online and retrieve  the PIN.

I think there is also an option to request by phone. Look this up at irs.gov

The more I know the more I don’t know.

The TP PIN is a number issued by IRS due to identify theft (or the like).  The 8879 only reflects the signature pin. Have tax payer call: 800.908.4490 for their IP PIN.

I'd verify that number independently first. CJM just joined us today and has no track record.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
