The IRS is very far behind on getting EFIN's out for me to start e-filing returns. Bad for business. There is no way to e-file without the 6-digit EFIN?

No, sorry. How long ago did you send in your fingerprint cards? Ive seen several preparers that sent their in December (which is super late to apply) that already got their EFIN.
You may want to try calling Eservices everyday and see if being the squeaky wheel gets yours to move through quicker.
