I have an out-of-state client who must file by mail because he doesn't know his IP PIN and whose IRS user account is locked. So, how to I best get him to get a signed document ("original signature" per IRS) to me to file, as they don't like the client signing and then sending me a scan of the signature page.

Why can't you mail him the return and tell him to sign it and mail it himself?  Are you his tax preparer or his mother?

Bob - evidently we lived in a more complex time period where we had to provide actual honest to goodness paper copies to clients for them to sign and mail on a daily basis --------------- without ever having to get their mothers involved in the process  😀
