Question

Sch D, basis reported. I have sales with basis reported, so the totals are on Lines 1a and 8a. How do I get ProConnect to attach a summary of the details of the totals?

See this article for detailed instructions for making Sch D input.  Based on the option you choose for Basis Rptd, ProConnect Tax will flow your entries to either Sch D or F.8949: https://proconnect.intuit.com/community/form-8949/help/entering-stock-transactions-for-form-8949-or-schedule-d/00/5238

You may like to refer to the IRS' instructions for when attachment is necessary: https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i8949#idm140393400115600

Here's an article about how to attach documents to a tax return for e-filing: https://proconnect.intuit.com/community/electronic-filing/help/how-to-attach-a-pdf-to-form-1040-for-e-file/00/5263

The "answer" did not solve my problem.  I have CGs (w/ basis reported) from several brokers that are reported on 1a and 8a.  I enter each broker or account totals, only, on the quick access section of the input.  I would like for ProConnect to add a schedule to my tax return that summarizes the details that make up 1a and 8a since those totals come from 5 or 6 different 1099s. I don't want the details on an 8949 since it's not required in this case.  Just want a paper trail.  I  realize I can prepare that summary on excel and attach it, but I prefer to "trigger" something that causes the software to do it.  But, many thanks for your response!

You may like to check your input again.  If these are covered securities and meet the conditions for Exception 1, these will flow directly to Sch D, lines 1a and 8a.  These will not trigger a F.8949 and no attachment will need to be e-filed.

Here's an example of how it works.  As you can see, there's no F.8949 and the summary result of the first three transactions flow directly to Line 1a, Sch D, whereas the last transaction goes to Line 8a.
