I have the following  reject for a clients 1120S:  Is there a way to resolve this without calling the IRS?

Details for your rejected filing

Error Message: The return type indicated in the return header must match the return type established with the IRS for the EIN.

Solution: This reject is common the first time a return and/or extension is electronically filed for a corporate or s-corporate entity. The IRS e-file helpdesk can assist you in resolving the discrepancy which has caused this filing to be rejected. The helpdesk encourages you to contact them via telephone at 866-255-0654 so they can assist you in resolving this issue and allow you to successfully e-file this return and/or extension. If the reject persists, please print the return or extension and mail the return or extension to the appropriate IRS service center.

The IRS thinks they didn't S-elect. Return will probably have to go on paper; you might choose to file a 2553 following one of the late election rules if the client can't produce the S-election acceptance letter.
