Private School Tuition- Medical Expense Deductions

Dear Community

I understand that private school tuition is not deductible.

But it can be if the child is attending private schools due to special or health needs. In such a case, a medical practitioner's recommendation is necessary.

Have any of you every tried to file this deduction for your clients? Any additional recommendations will be helpful.

Thank you

I had a client whose child went to a special needs college, and all or most of the tuition was deductible medical expense.

The college included a letter and memorandum regarding the deductibility. The 1098-T had total less scholarship.

    IRS Pubs. 502, 503 and 507.

I am referring to private school (grade school) tuition. Any experience with that?
