How do I override the default amount and pay more with a NY extension?

If this is for an individual return: 

  1. From the Payments, Penalties & Extension section select Extensions (4868, 2350, 8868). 
  2. You'll see the Federal info by default, select the State & Local tab from the top. 
  3. The amount in State tax liability (-1=none) [Override] will change the amount that goes to the IT-370 as Total Payment.
