I failed to file an extension for a client; what to do?

I simply thought the extension was filed for four 1041's for a the children of one of my clients. Just saw today that I did not! Is there a way to request the omission of the Late filing penalty, if there is tax owed, since it was my mistake?

File the return ASAP, or sooner, and then wait and see if there are any penalties.  You can start practicing your tear stained letter to the IRS begging for mercy in the event that any penalties are assessed.
