HSA state apportionment

Hi all - as a new user, the lack of flexibility in ProConnect is absolutely crushing our efficiency. For example, does anyone know how to apportion the Illinois HSA deduction on Line 24 of Schedule NR?

Illinois instructions, as interpreted by Intuit, say you don't do that. The full Federal HSA deduction also goes in the IL column.

https://tax.illinois.gov/forms/incometax/currentyear/individual/il-1040-schedule-nr-instr.html

"Line 24: Health savings account deduction
Enter the amount of health savings account deduction you claimed this year as shown in Column A."

Lacerte and ProConnect are pretty flexible once you know how to use them, but the learning curve will definitely crush your efficiency. What other stuff would you like to know how to do?

Thanks so much, Phoebe! I'm having a similar issue with student loan deduction on IL Sch NR, but I don't believe the tax law allows for 100% allocation like for the HSA deduction. Do you have any insight there?

Keep reading the forms instructions, which I've helpfully linked for you above.

"Line 32: Student loan interest deduction
Enter the amount of student loan interest you deducted this year as shown in Column A."

Also, my number one hint if you ever have a situation where ProConnect is producing a result that you don't like, and you can't figure out how to override it, is to read the forms instructions. There are some situations where you need to come up with workarounds, but if it's not a return you do a bunch of, all the time, the odds are the answer is "the forms instructions say to do it that way."

Thanks Phoebe...I thought I had adequately kicked the tires on the form rules there, but clearly not. I really appreciate all of your help!
