How to enter a NJ part year resident with NYS non-resident wages
I have a college aged taxpayer who moved with her family from PA to NJ on 4/30/25. She had no income during the first 4 months of the year. After moving to NJ she was employed in NJ for 4 months before attending college and working at a different employer n NY.
Her W-2s list NJ and NY withholding and she earned approx 6K in NJ and 12K in NY. The NYS non resident return looks correct as it is only taxing the 12K. However, NJ is only. picking up the 6K rather than the full 18K with a credit for taxes paid to NY.
On the input screen I am entering in the wages with a state indicator of NJ for the 6K and a NY indicator for the 12K. On the client information screen I am marking part year NJ resident from 5/1-12/31/25 and a NJ resident as of 12/31/25. The withholding is flowing properly but the credit for taxes paid to another state and the total wages on NJ are not.
Any ideas?
TIA.
