Question

How do I uncheck Sch A Box 5a? Proconnect is using sales taxes instead of state income tax withheld from W-2. Having trouble finding tab to unselect does anyone know how?

ProConnect Tax automatically optimizes between income and sales tax deduction for Sch A.  You may, therefore, like to review your numbers again.

In terms of input, go to Deductions > Itemized Deductions (Sch A), click on the Taxes tab, and check your entry for the first line (i.e. 1=force income tax, 2=force sales tax, blank=optimize).  It should normally be left blank.  If you are seeing sales tax deduction when actual state income tax is higher, you have probably entered a 2 to force the use of sales tax.
