FORM 1120S EFILE REJECTION

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone encountered this IRS e-file rejection when submitting a 2025 business return?

Error Message:
The return type indicated in the return header must match the return type established with the IRS for the EIN.

Context:
The S-Corp Return was successfully efiled in last year (2024 Return) via ProConnect. However, when attempting to e-file the 2025 return, it is now being rejected with the error above. We have already verified the EIN and the Entity Name against the 2024 filed return.

Is there any solution we can do to still efile the return without calling the IRS Helpdesk?

If not, we will proceed to calling the IRS or paperfiling the return.

Thank you in advance!

I have experienced this on a few returns even though accepted the year before. The IRS seems to be behind on their S-Corp elections and we are finding out clients S-Election has not been approved or not approved for the tax year in question. clients are stating they have not received noticed either. The quickest resolve I have found is to complete a new 2553 and ask for a late filing rather than fighting that it was sent properly the first time. I have ones sent on time - IRS stamps when it actually hits a workers desk then calls it late filing.
