EF critical diag re: resident state

Hi all,

How do you deal with the EF diag -

"The Resident State as of 12/31/2024 is required to track state e-file returns. US - Ref #5636" ?

Clients are US citizens living abroad with MA rental income.  They do not have a resident (US) state as of 12/31/2024.

Is this saying I need to paper-file the MA Form 1-NR/PY?

    Can you enter US as resident state?

    Or is there an option for Foreign Country?
