Diagnostic says 1041 w/ FY ending before 12/2021 can't be e-filed, yet IRS accepts efile of current year two prior years. Is this unique to Intuit/ProConnect?

I have a 1041 tax return for an estate that ends on 10/30/2021. ProConnect says I can't efile it: "Federal 1041 returns with a fiscal year ending before December of 2021 cannot be e-filed. File the 1041 return as a conventional paper return." Yet IRS lists Intuit as approved IRS Modernized e-File Business provider for 2019-2021 (https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/1041-modernized-e-file-mef-providers). Has anybody run into this?

If the year on that return began in 2020 you need to prepare it in the 2020 software.

It sounds like you are using 2021.

Thanks, that was it. Seems counterintuitive to me, but that error message went away when using 2020 software.
