Can't choose current year as tax year for final 1120s return

Hi all,

As stated in the question, it seems that I can't choose a 2024 tax year return in Proconnect. Obviously, Proconnect believes that we're still in the 2023 tax year. However, client needs to file a final tax return (1120s) since his business dissolved in 05/2024, and IRS requires an S Corp to file the final return in three months' time from my understanding.

I filled out a 2023 return with a short year period from 1/1/2024 to 5/31/2024, but Proconnect simply does not allow me to file b/c it says I've already filed a 2023 return using the same EIN, which is kind of true, but what else could I do?

Anyone know how to deal with such a situation?

    1. File an Extension

    2. Paper File

Kinda hard to file e-file a 2024 return when the IRS doesn't have 2024 forms available.  Use the 2023 forms, cross off the 23 and write in 24.  Then make the USPS happy by putting a paper copy in an envelope, put some stamps on it and drop it off at your local Post Office
