Question

Can an officer of a private foundation prepare and e-file the foundation's tax return using ProConnect (without ERO, without EFIN, and without PTIN)?

An officer of a private foundation is allowed to prepare the tax return for an exempt foundation, regardless of professional credentials.  However, ProConnect keeps asking for ERO/EFIN/TPIN.

If an officer of a private foundation can prepare and e-file the foundation's tax return using ProConnect (without ERO, without EFIN, and without PTIN), I would like to know the steps to follow.  Thanks!

Nobody can e-file a return without an EFIN.

https://proconnect.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/account-management/register-efin-proconnect-tax/L9UQWErbz_US_en_US?uid=ldtbmau7

"As part of our continuing commitment to work with the IRS, states, and industry to combat tax fraud, Intuit requires all tax professional customers to have IRS documentation of their E-File Identification Number (EFIN) registration on file before you can e-file through Intuit's professional tax products."

You may want to call support to see if you bought something you can't use.

Thanks for the answer.  If I can get EFIN (after 45 days), but I don't have ERO or PTIN, can I still prepare and e-file the foundation's tax return?

The ERO PIN is something you make up. So that's not a problem.

If you select Nonpaid Preparer, I don't know if you will still need a PTIN to efile the return.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
