Question

Are separate returns-lower income spouse claims kids-valid way to maximize stimulus? Tiebreaker rules wouldn't apply unless both claim same kid, right? SP1 130K SP2 50K

no stimulus pmts were received yet. The question is partially about IRS tiebreaker use - they leave choice of where kids are claimed undisturbed unless a kid is claimed on both returns, right? Only if they need to step in due to a kid being claimed on both spouses separate returns do the tiebreaker rules come into play.  BTW these are married parents living together. The only reason for separate filing is stimulus and unemployment exemption.
