1040-X first time filing

Hi, first time amending a return. Do I manually enter what was on the original return on the left column of the 1040-X and enter the changes on the 1040, having it carryover automatically to the right column on the 1040-X? It's just an adjustment to the schedule C - do I also attach the amended schedule C to the return? A little confused...not sure if it files the 1040 along with the 1040-X either.
