Transfers from spouse

Hi all.  I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this but I need someone to please tell me how.  I am doing the file of the wife, but not the husband as he has his done elsewhere.  In order for hers to NOT claim any amounts for him, what do I need to do.

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Do you have the wife that you are doing still set up as the spouse?  If sure, uncouple, save the wife's tax return, and she will then be the taxpayer.  Put the husbands income on the Info screen for the wife (now the taxpayer).  There will not be a tax return for the husband at all.

You need to enter a net income for the spouse on the Info screen, under Spousal information.  Preferably, you would coordinate with the other tax preparer and enter the actual net income.  If that is not available, just put in an estimated amount high enough to block any deductions.

Hi Janis.  You've helped me before and so I want to say thank you for the response.  The only problem is that, by entering the income in the spouse's section of the Info page, it STILL does not carryforward in a way to prevent the transfers.  The only way I've found so far is to simply put in the spouse's income on HIS line 236.

When I put a high number in the Net income field "spousal information" on the taxpayers info screen, it does block the transfers.  Maybe you are putting it on the spouse's tax return instead?  Or not using a high enough income?  The other place you can put it is on the Schedule 2 of the taxpayer, under All other income, use one of the blank lines.  If the file is set up properly, you should not even have a tax return for the non-filing spouse (the one that the other preparer is doing).  In my dummy file, if I try to switch to the spouse's return, it asks if I want to create a new return for the spouse.  You should uncouple the returns if you already have one for the spouse (under file, uncouple).
