Question

Retro pay received 2 years after death

Client deceased in 2022, received retro pay in 2024 (was for pay equity). CPP, EI, union dues and income taxes deducted. Talk with CRA and could not get an answer, they sent me a link. Still no definite answer.

Would treating it as a rights or things be the way to go?

Thanks for any input on this

I would definitely consider it a Right or Thing.  Earned prior to death (as it was retro pay), but not received until after death.

Thanks Janis, that's what I will go with and see where it goes.

Use T1 Returns for the year the person died and for the province or territory of residence of the person at the time of death. Write "70(2)" in the top right corner of page 1 of the return.
