CERB, CRB or other COVID-related benefits and child care expenses

Do CERB, CRB or other COVID-related benefits (including income on T4E slips) qualify as “earned income” for the child care expenses? I cannot find any information on this topic.

However, according to Profile’s calculation, they do qualify as ‘earned income’.

I'd appreciate any comments.

Hi, thank you for using Intuit ProFile Community

The definition for earned income has changed in 2020 as it applies to the child care expenses. The allowed earned income can be found on the 2020 T778 found here. ProFile has implemented these changes.

Hope this helps

Profile does not (at least that I have ever seen) show "earned income" and the government is going to question WHY if you are on CERB and not working you have to pay anybody childcare expenses ??  JMO

Thank you, Duncan, for your very constructive answer!

Yesterday went over CRA's website and was unable to locate this information. In addition, I consulted "Preparing Your Income Tax Returns" by Wolters Kluwer and it did not mention the new rules, either.
