Unable to access Intuit Lacerte for sending invites

I am getting an error messages when I try to send invitations to Intuit Link or try to access it from the Tools menu vs. the portal. The first message is "Unable to load your custom engagement letter. Loading the default engagement letter."  When I hit the ok button, then I get the "An error has occurred in the Lacerte Tax Program" box.  It is apparently related to an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.  I was on the phone with Lacerte for 3 hours yesterday with no resolution.  This is a major crimp in my tax preparation based on the way I operate and use Intuit Link.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

For anyone experiencing this, the following may help to resolve it:

  1. Rename the linkengagementletter.xml to linkengagementletter.old that is found in Option24 folder for Lacerte.
  2. Open TY24 and launch the Intuit Link widget to create a new linkengagementletter.xml.
  3. Close TY24 Lacerte program. 
  4. Open the linkengagementletter.old file with Notepad.
  5. Copy the text form the custom engagement letter.
  6. Paste it into the Link Engagement Letter editor in Lacerte TY24.
  7. Save the changes and then exit.
  8. After editing the linkengagementletter.xml this may be copied from Option24 folder to TY25 Option25 folder
