Tennessee Multi State Apportionment isn't populating the Sch N1

There is an issue with the partnership software not populating the Schedule N1.  I have reported this to Lacerte support, but am unable to discuss the issue directly with the programmers who believe that there is no issue.  Has anyone else had this issue?  If so, how was it resolved.  The last support person I spoke with could not provide a solution and advised that I manually prepare the return.

Hi @tpcpa thanks for sharing about this.

While looking into why Schedule N1 isn’t populating, we came across language in the Tennessee FAE 170 instructions that may be relevant (Please refer to Page 1 Section H and I).

“Taxpayers may elect to use a three-factor apportionment method consisting of a property factor, a payroll factor, and a triple weighted sales factor for standard apportionment purposes, provided that: 1. The election must result in a higher apportionment ratio for the tax year (as compared to the ratio computed using the standard apportionment formula in effect for the tax year), and 2. The taxpayer must have net earnings, rather than a net loss, for the tax year. Taxpayers who do not meet these two criteria cannot make this election. Taxpayers making this election will complete Schedule N1.”

If this doesn't account for it, we would like to take a closer look. I will send you the instructions for how to send us a sanitized file via direct message (you can find it by clicking on your avatar on the top right corner of the page → select Private Messages).
