Patience will eventually take care of this. IRS reacts quickly, but moves slowly.

The IRS bills are typically an automated system.

Amending returns is not automated - it usually take two to four MONTHS for the IRS to process an amended return.  So if you e-filed them only a few weeks ago, it will likely be some time before the IRS processes them.

Yes, some people still don't realize that e-filing an amended return is like emailing IRS a pdf.  It goes in the processing grinder a few days earlier than one that is mailed.

Status of Processing Form 1040-X, Amended Individual Tax Return: As of June 3, 2023, we had 1.49 million unprocessed Forms 1040-X. We are processing these returns in the order received and the current timeframe can be more than 20 weeks. Please don't file the same return more than once. Taxpayers should continue to check Where's My Amended Return? for the most up to date processing status available.
