Lacerte self-prepared tax return

For a self-prepared tax return, the Federal return prints “self-prepared” and omits the firm name from printing.

However, the Maryland return prints “self-prepared” BUT the firm name remains in the signature box.

How do you eliminate the firm name in the Maryland signature box?

Hi @MD CPA thanks for posting about the firm name remaining on the MD signature box. This has been reported to development for further review. You will receive updates via email.

How do you tell Lacerte that it’s a self-prepared 1040 return?  AI suggested “XSP” but that doesn’t work - it just prints “XSP” as the preparer and leaves the firm name.

On Screen 1 Client Information, on the left most column, under Sections, click Miscellaneous Info.

    Change Prepared by to Self-Prepared

Yes, but that still leaves my Firm’s name, address, and EIN

I tested the 2021 through 2025 software versions. Across all of them, every field in the Paid Preparer section on page 2 of Form 1040 was darkened, except for the preparer's signature, which read 'Self-Prepared.’
