what are the steps to update the EIN to all 9's.

Go to the client data 'page' when the FEIN is entered, then change it to all 999999999999999999999999999's

I ass-u-me you are doing this to run a prelim/dummy return to avoid incurring REP charges until you are ready to actually do the return?

    I entered all 9's then selected the forms tab and the message was to update the EN to convert the clients return.  

    Yes I am changing to 9's until I am ready to file.

    Are you trying to convert a file from different software?

    I've never done that, so I can't help.
