Question

Has Lacerte changed the computation of AGI for Form 1041-ES since the April 15 deadline?

I have a Form 1041 client that is now showing they should make 2026 Estimates based on 110% of 2025 tax. However, the information used to extend the tax return based 2026 Estimates on 100% of 2025 tax. Nothing has materially changed on the tax return. According tot he definition of AGI in the Instructions for Form 1041 (2025), the trust is under the $150,000 threshold to increase 2026 estimates to the 110% level. Has Lacerte changed the calculation of this AGI threshold since early April?

Hi @Wanda S  Thank you for posting about this.  I spoke with the team, you may want to review your estimate options in Settings > Options > Tax Return as well as on the estimates detail screen (in case they differ).

The F1 help in either location will display the different options available as well as their anticipation function.

If you think the AGI calculation on the 1041-ES is off, you can either contact Lacerte Support to review the file, or submit a calculation challenge (make sure the details required are present, if applicable).

Thank you, @IntuitKate.Yes, the 100 / 110% of 2025 Tax is the default method set in the options and no override is present on the estimated detail screen. Further, there is no option for just 100% of 2025 Tax. Both the 04/05/2026 Form 1041-ES and the current Form 1041-ES explicitly show the 100 / 110% of 2025 Tax  method is selected. The AGI only changed by $1 between then and now, so the AGI back in April was $142,453 and now the AGI is $142,454. Both are under the $150,000 threshold but the program correctly used 100% of 2025 tax on the Form 1041-ES back in April and now it is incorrectly using 110% of 2025 tax. I have submitted a calculation challenge, so hopefully that will shed some light on the situation.
