Federal Electronic estimated payments with amended returns

I am amending several Federal returns that elected to have Federal 2026 estimated tax  payments directly withdrawn by the clients account. I understand the 2026 estimated tax payments would be duplicated  if I don't call the IRS and delete the existing payments.  I would rather not change the estimated payments already setup.

Question: If I turn off or un-check the box for electronic 2026 estimated tax on the amended filing will the original estimated tax schedule still be in force? I assume it would be and there would no new schedule because the direct withdrawal has been un-checked.

Anyone have experience with this issue?

If you turn them off with the amended return the original ones will still go through.

Been there.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Correct, just don't send the estimated tax payments with the amended return, and the originals will be paid as scheduled.
