Excess Mortgage Interest on Organizer

Many of my clients pay interest on mortgages over $750k, and I use the Excess Mortgage Interest entries on Screen 25 to enter them.

however, I discovered this last year that if Excess entry is used, the paper organizer doesn’t pick up on this.  I’ve confirmed that both the Condensed and the Complete organizers don’t ask for this.  And some of my clients forget, and I then have to bug them.

Is there a workaround?

I would list the mortgage companies by name in the main mortgage interest section. But you need to list them mindfully. 1) you don’t want to forget and include the 1098 box 1 amount up there in the software by mistake, and 2) you want to think about how the name will appear in the organizer. e.g., I wouldn’t use “Chase - see below”, bc that would show up on the organizer and confuse *some* of our clients. I’d use “Chase - excess mortgage interest.”

Ahh, so you put a placeholder in the main mortgage interest section?  Of course, that won’t show previous year amount if it’s only the name placeholder.

I guess I’d hoped that Lacerte organizer would pick it up from the Excess section, but I’d guess I’d be hoping too much!
