Efile error

I get an error that says "Reject: Error R0000-500-01: "PrimarySSN and PrimaryNameControlTxt" in the return header must match the e-file database.

I know the reason which is that the 2023 tax return filed by someone else for the taxpayer had the wrong last name, when I correct it this year in 2024, the e-file is rejected. The question I have is:

Can we do something in Lacerte without having to deal with the IRS and fix the error and resubmit?

I believe this is an issue to resolve with IRS. Make sure the name does match the Social Security Card. The contact I would start with is the IRS Practitioner Hotline. https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/practitioner-priority-service-r#:~:text=The%20Practitioner%20Priority%20Service%C2%AE,at%20866%2D860%2D4259.

Have a copy of the Social Security Card in hand when you call.
