Educator Credit and 1099-Q

Educator Credit not showing up for TP on Sch 1, Line 11.  It only took for SP (both are teachers).

Dependent also has a 1099-Q with expenses.

Lacerte would not allow the TP $300 EC to go to Sch 11, Line 1, only SP.

To get all to work; ED Cr of $600 and non-income on 1099-Q had to move expenses on 14.3 to the Override at the bottom of entry form and put a "1" tor Delete This Year.

This is an obvious Lacerte programming error as this worked in 2023.  Cust Support would not escalate to programming and told me to put my "suggestion" here.

Hopefully enough people will come across this issue and it will be fixed in a later release.

Hi @Jerilyn
Thanks for the report. We reviewed this and found information on Tax Topic 458: Educator expense deduction (https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc458 that can give context on married filing jointly and eligible educators.

For other topics, you also have the option to Send a Service Request. This allows you to share your reference documents, display calculation differences, etc. to challenge the program's calculations in case you have further questions. Otherwise, contact us on your particular topic.

Let us know in the replies if this answers your question.

@Jerilyn  It is not a credit. It is a deduction.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Same problem. I'm not seeing how entering the amount of Qualified higher education expenses as an Override has any impact.  But I do need to Delete this year the 1099-Q info in order to release the $300 Educator Expense deduction.   But now IRS may send notice that 1099-Q payout is taxable income.
