E-Filing Extension 4868 Non-resident Spouse with No ITIN

Can an Extension Form 4868 be e-filed (via Lacerte) when the Spouse is a Non-resident Alien who does not yet have an ITIN?  Per 4868 instructions, when a spouse does not yet have a TIN, the phrase "ITIN TO BE REQUESTED" should be entered in the space for spouse's SS#.  However, Lacerte does not accommodate this comment in the field for Spouse's SS#.   So must the Ext Form 4868 be filed on Paper and mailed to IRS?

Will  APPLIEDFOR work?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

With APPLIED FOR, Lacerte gives a critical diagnostic saying that it is not a valid #.  So it appears Lacerte will not e-file the Extension without a valid #.
