Can I still e-file 2016 and 2017

efiling for 1040s closed Nov 16, 2019. It will reopen in January 2020 at which time you'll be able to efile 2017, 2018, and 2019. 2016 1040s are paper filings now.

You would think that a diagnostic would be created before you produce a 2016 Form 1040 for e-file after the e-file deadline, get the signed Form 8879 from the client, try to e-file a 2016 return and fail, and produce a paper-file return.
