Question

Can an Extension be filled for 2025 as of June 4th 2026

Hey everyone, my name is Shane. I'm a Bookkeeper with 3Peaks Bookkeeping.

I have a new client that has yet to file 2025 Taxes, and is trying to secure a property loan. The loan company just needs proof an extension has been filed (no approved or anything) or taxes filed.

He wants to file an extension. I am NOT a Tax Expert, but in my previous experience, past the April 15th deadline, an extension isn't an option. Getting filed ASAP is the only option.

But seeking advice from the Pro's!

Thank you all in advance!

They can always send in money for 2025 estimate payments, but unless they had a 2 month automatic extension you are absolutely correct. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/us-citizens-and-resident-aliens-abroad-automatic-2-month-extension-of-time-to-file

Answers are easy. Questions are hard!

Is that an automatic thing that all of us are enrolled in or is it safe to assume that he would’ve had to enroll in automatic extensions?

Unless they are in an IRS-designated Disaster area that extended the April 15th deadline or their main place of work ("tax home") is outside of the US, unfortunately, it is too late to file an extension (assuming it isn't a fiscal-year entity whose tax deadline has not passed yet).

But check if they are in a Disaster area, because there were quite a few in 2025.
