ProConnect has a multi-state summary worksheet in the check return tab that lists how income and deductions are being allocated between states when a multi-state return exists. The summary works great when there are part-year resident returns because it will list each state separately. However, when you have a resident and a non-resident return, the multi-state summary worksheet only includes the non-resident state and the federal column. It would be helpful if the worksheet also listed the resident return so the preparer and reviewer can identify that items are getting allocated to the correct state.
If there are multiple state returns present for a 1040 tax return and a state return requires that the other state's return(s) be attached, ProConnect makes you download the state return and attach it manually. ProConnect should have a feature that automatically attaches any necessary state returns when required. This would be a significant time saver and would reduce the chance of a state return getting attached with the wrong information. For example, a state return could be attached, but then corrections are made to the tax return that causes the original state return attachment to become obsolete. You would have to redownload the state attachment and reattach to the return.By having a feature that automatically attaches state returns when required, this would ensure that the most updated return is included for electronically filing.
It seems to me that a login/authentication process could be made so that it is not necessary to continue logging in each time you open or close a program. If I have logged in and authenticated, it feels like that ought to be able to be catalogued at a minimum by user or mac address so that subsequent programs used do not need another login plus authentication. It is a frustrating waste of time, especially because frequent updates mean having to do this regularly, in addition to needing to do it in the midst of opening different years.
We need the same tax data report functionality as Lacerte. To be able to select the fields that one is interested in to export. Why is this not available for ProConnect? The current 1040 report does not include the spouse information (name, phone, email etc.). Why not???
I have been trying to use another software that provides more detail on next year's taxes and the best way to input into the other software is by exporting my Lacerte file to excel. When I began doing this, I noticed that some of the income fields on the tax return cannot be exported from excel. This includes Short-Term Capital Gain/Long-Term Capital Gain, qualified dividends, gross social security, etc. Can an enhancement to the export function be created to include at least all of the items included on the first few pages of a 1040, such as splitting up Capital Gains into short and long term rather than one line item for all capital gains?
Customer service was not able to fully resolve my inability to generate the E-file Extension Aceptance Letter (IRS could not print; only NYS).
In the Tax Planner you to add how much is needed to put into an IRA or equivalent to move tax bracket down. How can you not have that?????
