If tax filing season is over, don't proceed with validation.

Do you mean, for example, for 2019 as we sit here in 2023?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

No matter what year.

Yesterday I learned that the FTB allows e-filing of 2020 tax returns.  Today I learned, AFTER GETTING A SUCCESSFUL VALIDATION, that Lacerte is not allowing e-filing of 2020 tax returns.

It is at validation that we should be told that electronic filing is no longer available.  When validation is labeled as successful, the preparer rightfully believes that filing is still available.  E filing is NOT the time to know that the filing season is over.

An alternative idea is to add a note:  "Filing might no longer be available" with a link to the electronic filing summary somewhere on that validation screen.
