It seems that filing an extension—Payments, Penalties & Extensions > Extensions (4868, 2350, 8868) > Automatic Extension (4868) > 1=automatic extension, 2=blank (MANDATORY) > "1"—sets the payment due date in the client letter to the extended return filing deadline. This is incorrect and misleading for clients. An extension of time to file generally does not extend the time to pay.

Adding a date to Payments, Penalties & Extensions > Penalties and Interest (2210) > Filing date does not affect the date printed in the state client letter. (It does change the date on the federal letter only.) We can't edit the state letter template in Settings > Client letters > Letter templates.

Our current solution is to delete the "1" in the Automatic Extension (4868) screen before we process the return. Please fix this. Thanks!
