Shared Allocation on Form 8962 & Efile Errors
There are multiple instances when we have clients that are needing to have a shared allocation of their Marketplace Health Insurance due to multiple tax families on one Form 1095-A. The most common situation for our firm is when a taxpayer, mom and dad, have a child who in the past has been claimed as a dependent but in this tax year is not a dependent. The Form 1095-A is one policy that includes all three taxpayers but due to the child claiming themselves, the child is considered a separate tax family. Most of the time, the parent's are wanting to allocate 100% of the premiums, SLCSP & PTC to their return and 0% of these figures to the nondependent child. In this instance once the nondependent's return is prepared, there is an e-file error due to no amounts being entered into Part II, line 11 or lines 12 through 23 as they are wanting to take 0 in those columns. I know for a fact that other tax providers have figured out a way in this exact situation to have their nondependent's return electronically file.
