NYS DRIVERS LICENSE TRANSFER FROM PRIOR YEAR

Each tax season, ProSeries users waste significant time manually re-entering driver’s license and state ID information for returning clients. This information already exists in the prior year’s file and should automatically transfer when client data is rolled forward.

A simple enhancement would be for ProSeries to import the driver’s license/ID fields from the prior year and flag them for review if the expiration date has passed. That way, preparers can quickly verify or update the information instead of retyping it every year.

This improvement would streamline workflow, reduce errors, and save preparers hours during busy season.

Thank you for considering this much-needed efficiency update.

I totally agree.  Many states have the information transfer and it only needs to be confirmed.

I use ProSeries Pro, and my clients driver’s license info carries over, but I have long ago stopped transferring clients until January as there are too many errors if done earlier.

I believe it is a NY rule that it can't pro forma.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Such a waste of time for sure.  When I raised this as a  bug a few years back was told NYS prohibits the license information from carrying over.  At a minimum have a check box that we can click to confirm that the information is correct.

I don't about anyone else, but all I do is copy and past the data from the prior year as long as the license has not expired.

NYS Does stupid things and this is one of them.
