I had a fiduciary income tax return with 42 pages of stock trades.  My file attachment limitations was 2.0 megabyes, which was 4 pages.  I can attach much larger files and more data to 1040s.  This needs to be fixed.

If an individual client has too many pages of stock transactions to be attached to an electronically filed return, I can print them out and send them with a form 8453 to the IRS in Austin Texas, checking the box of what is attached, and still e-file this person's personal income tax returns.  You don't have the same option with the Fiduciary 8453 form.

That would be great, but an additional problem is that you seem to be scanning things at a fairly high resolution.

Try scanning at 150DPI in Black-and-White (I scan almost everythting at 200 DBI, but I think 42 pages would probably end up about 3MB, so 150 DPI should work for you).

It also depends on the program that creates your PDFs, as that can also change the quality and file size.

Are you sure all of those transactions actually need to be attached?

Covered sales with no adjustments do not need to be attached.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
