Married filing jointly vs separately
Although Lacerte has a very good feature showing the difference between filing jointly vs. separately, it only makes that calculation for federal purposes. I had a new client this year and when looking at his previous year's return, the software showed that although filing jointly was more beneficial for federal purposes, it also showed the state calculation as well. The state calculation showed that filing separately was more beneficial and more than offset the federal benefit of filing jointly.
I think that Lacerte should consider including the state consequences as well so that preparers could make a more informed decision as how the taxpayers should file.
