Lacerte individual program late penalty calculation
Lacerte individual tax program sometimes does not calculate the late payment penalty. I spent 2.5 hours with support, on the phone, and they could not determine why the program would not function correctly. I have property entered the date of filing and asked the program to calculate the late interest and late payment penalty but only the late interest calculates. If I remove the timely filed extension from the return, by unchecking the automatic extension box, the program will calculate the penalty correctly. This seems to be a software issue and the resolution is to manually enter the penalty. With all due respect, I use and pay for professional software to do these calculations for me. Further, would appreciate the software to give me a diagnostic warning if it is not calculating the penalty.
