Form 990 - How to e-file a final short year Form 990 using the prior year forms?

The IRS requires all 990's to be e-filed, no exceptions. Proseries is not allowing us to e-file a short year 2022 Form 990 on the 2021 forms. The diagnostic is "The submission is a duplicate of one that was previously received." How can we e-file the 2022 Form 990 on the 2021 form, which is pursuant to IRS instructions?

You can't.

Request an extension and wait for the 2022 software.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

The client wants to file now. This should be a solvable issue by Intuit, since the IRS instructions specifically allow this. This is my time on the idea exchange. Does Proseries technical support weigh in on whether they are able to fix this?

No they don't.

Our ideas are generally ignored.

The technical support person I spoke with sent me the link to the Idea Exchange - said it would receive more attention than what she was going to write up.

Attention Proseries technical - are you out there to tell us if you are doing anything about this diagnostic? Thank you.

Thanks for the idea. We are changing the status to "Open for voting" since it has been around for over 30 days and no longer considered "New". If you have any questions on the life cycle of an idea, check out our Idea Exchange Getting Started Guide for more information.
