Often it is unclear until the last moment if you will file to extend, or file a return.  It is not time fruitful to be concerned about missing payment of the amount due through draft, based on whether you file or extend.  Checking the box to electronically pay amount due with return and the amount due with extension, is what I did on a client with a large amount due.

I did not run extension wizard, did not extend.  Filed return.  Then looked at FinTrans Summary tab in forms to remind myself of the drafting date and was shocked to find that the summary said the amount would draft twice, once for the return and once for the extension I had not filed.

This cost me concern and time.  Got on phone with Jessica - she was great, confirmed from Lacerte side that only one "amount due" would be drafted.

Once I filed the return, and did not extend, no extension amount should have shown on the fintrans tab, or at the very least had a disclaimer that informed me this amount would not draft unless I filed an extension.  Maybe there is a setting I am unaware of?

Thank you.

I hear you bro!  You want the software to show what you wanted done.

However, this is on you.

When I read this "Often it is unclear until the last moment if you will file to extend, or file a return"

I heard a person in a rush, a person under stress maybe, and maybe without accurate information from the client or the client's intensions.

It is up to you to slow down and deselect the correct boxes and select the correct boxes.  I wish you luck.  I know it is hard.

"Once I filed the return, and did not extend, no extension amount should have shown on the fintrans tab, or at the very least had a disclaimer that informed me this amount would not draft unless I filed an extension. "

I support this idea.

Did you give the FinTrans summary to the client?
