I signed up for signature this year.

When I sent the first one, I realized that there is no way to hide the SSNs of the taxpayers.

The Lacerte Rep agreed that it is not possible.

I am going back to the old way of sending signature documents until the SSNs can be masked.

I agree we had a client complaint about getting their return with their social security number exposed.  E-Signature feature should have the option to mask the SSN just like if it was being printed on paper/pdf

Part of the signature process is having the client verify that the SSNs are accurate.  For new clients (or legacy clients with new dependents or spouses), that's critical to ensure a typo didn't happen.  I put a SSN-masked copy in my portal for clients as a reference copy and just edit my DocuSign message to clarify the difference (this version has your SSNs showing so you can verify accuracy, if you want a masked version for privacy, save the version in your portal instead of this one for your records).

I completely agree that "NEW" or clients with new dependents/spouses should review all their info for any typos, however it should be as an option just like if you were to print the tax return and have the option of masking.  By doing the reprint, upload to the portal defeats the purpose of e-signature if you have to do all these extra steps vs having the option right there.  Set it to default as not masking but give us the option.
