Add e-filing support for Form 709 (Gift Tax Returns)

The IRS now supports electronic filing for Form 709 through the Modernized e-File (MeF) system, beginning with recent tax years. However, it appears that ProSeries does not currently support e-filing for these returns.

We would like to request that Intuit prioritize adding e-file capability for Form 709 within ProSeries.

For firms like ours, the ability to e-file gift tax returns would provide significant benefits:

  • Improved efficiency and reduced administrative burden compared to paper filing

  • Faster processing and confirmation of receipt by the IRS

  • Reduced risk of mailing delays or lost filings

  • Alignment with the IRS’s modernization efforts

As more clients require timely and accurate gift tax filings, continuing to rely on paper processes creates unnecessary operational challenges.

Is there currently a roadmap or expected timeline for enabling Form 709 e-file in ProSeries? If not, we strongly encourage Intuit to consider this enhancement as a priority.

Thank you for your consideration.

Agree 100%; not having ANY idea that ProSeries would not make e-filing available this year, I proudly told several of my gift tax filing clients (who are all older individuals), you won't have to go to the Post Office this year to paper file your Gift Tax return, the IRS now allows e-filing.  Now I have to tell them my software is 'behind the time' and hasn't upgraded to that capability.  One client even said to me, maybe you need to use a different software.  They have NO idea how expensive and detailed any tax software is, I know that, plus they don't under the programming and technical work needed to be able to e-file.  BUT, this needs to be an extremely HIGH priority ASAP for the 2026 return season.

FYI no Intuit software efiles them for 2025.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
